Humane Society of York County

Welcome to the WebAd of the Humane Society of York County in South Carolina. We are very pleased that you have stopped by to see what we're doing and to look at the pets that are available at this time.

The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) was founded in 1976 to help address the needs of an ever-growing animal population. Originally, all animals were cared for in the homes of dedicated volunteers. In 1999 we moved into a modern facility in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with the capacity to house approximately fifty cats and fifty dogs.

The HSYC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. Our mission is to prevent animal suffering, to help reduce overpopulation by promoting spaying and neutering, to educate the public about animal welfare, and to place adoptable animals in loving homes.

The ten-year goal of the HSYC is to have a larger facility, complete with indoor/outdoor runs, an enclosed play area, and other amenities.

We receive no funds from, nor are we connected with, any other animal welfare organizations. Our existence depends entirely on donations of time and money given by caring individuals and businesses in all of York, Chester, and Mecklenburg Counties.

The Humane Society educates people about how to care for the animals, lobbies for tougher animal abuse laws, rescues abused and neglected animals and spays and neuters as many animals as possible. We then find these animals a family to love.
During 2003, we took in and placed more than 1100 animals, one at a time. All animals are matched to their potential owner's lifestyle and leave healthy and up to date on shots.

We must rely on the community for support. We get no money from the county, state or National Humane Society, so we're having to come up with the money for the new building ourselves.

All donations made to the Humane Society are tax deductible. We are especially looking for corporate sponsorships as well.

For those looking for a new pet, potential pet owners should visit our facility.

We need volunteers to come in and help with our animals. All animals need love and attention. Many are abused and need special care to bring them back to a normal life.

Would you like to help? We need all Volunteers to come to the HSYC Office or call Bill Monroe. Give us a list of times that you can help!! We also need someone that can organize and set up volunteers to help with all functions of the HSYC.

Please also note that we have a Low Cost Spay and Neuter program that is now available. Go to our website or call for more details.

YORK COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY NEEDS YOUR HELP

As the seasons change kitten season approaches and the Humane Society will have its fill of cats and kittens, along with the normal volume of dogs and puppies. This is a nonprofit privately funded organization that can NOT receive public funding because they are a NO KILL shelter.

We are asking for donations, food and supplies as well as money to support this worthy cause. ADDITIONALLY, we have photos of all the "babies" waiting to be adopted. So stop by and take a look and see who you are helping. Or stop by to look at a cute cat or dog.
